Description :
The Symphony No. 1 in E flat major, K. 16, was written in 1764 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at the age of just eight years. By this time, he was already notable in Europe as a wunderkind performer, but had composed little music. The autograph score of the symphony is today preserved in the Biblioteka Jagiellońska in Kraków. The piece was written on the Mozart family's Grand Tour of Europe in London when they had to move to Chelsea during the summer of 1764 due to Mozart's father Leopold's illness (throat infection). The house at 180 Ebury Street, now in the borough of Westminster, where this symphony was written, is marked with a plaque. The symphony was first performed on 21 February 1765. The work shows the influence of several composers, including his father and the sons of Johann Sebastian Bach, especially Johann Christian Bach, an important early symphonist working in London whom Mozart had met during his time there. The symphony is scored for 2 oboes, 2 horns, and strings. The work is in three movements: 1. Molto allegro, 4/4 2. Andante, C minor, 2/4 3. Presto, 3/8 What's notably interesting is the symphony's second movement, in which the young eight year-old Mozart makes use of the famous four note motif that appears in the Finale of his Jupiter symphony. The four notes, Do, Re, Fa, Me, were used considerably by Mozart, and they make an appearance in several of his works, including his Symphony No. 33 and the Symphony No. 41. This particular theme is stated by the ...

Description :
Of all the classical composers who hold a special place in music history, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is perhaps the most famous, and certainly one of the most accomplished. Today, his compositions have taken a firm hold in the world of classical music, and his pieces are often heard throughout concerts in the world. Although Mozart died at the young age of 35, he left behind a legacy of works that are now regarded as masterpieces. However, his accomplishments were not just the work of a musical genius; Mozart worked and studied hard throughout his lifetime, putting his heart and soul into the music he composed. It is for these reasons that Mozart is perhaps the most respected classical composer in history. Mozart was born in Salzburg, Austria on January 27, 1756. His father, a skilled violinist and music teacher himself, encouraged his young son to play many instruments from the tender age of three; instruments ranging from the violin to the organ and beyond. By the age of five, Mozart had started composing music for himself. As a young man, Mozart travelled extensively throughout Europe, with his time spent in Vienna in the early 1770s being particularly rewarding; it was here that he composed two operas, 'Mitridate' and 'Lucio Silla'. Later during this decade, Mozart's first operas began to be performed in Germany, and he found employment from 1774 to 1777 at the court of the Prince Archbishop in his hometown of Salzburg. During this period, the classical composer ...

Rare. Rene Leibowitz conducts The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (1962) Rene Leibowitz (1913-1972) was born in Warsaw but moved to Paris in his teens and there began a long, illustrious conducting career. Particularly interested in contemporary music, he studied with Webern and Schoenberg and wrote a detailed analysis of twelve-tone music. A keen ear for instrumental coloration (Ravel was his orchestration teacher) was evident in his kaleidoscopic transcriptions of such works as Bach's Passacaglia and Fugue in C (for double orchestra!). But he is best known for his often highly personal renditions of many staples of the Classical and Romantic repertoire. Here's Part 2 www.youtube.com

Description :
WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART (1756-1791) Symphony for orchestra in G minor K183 1. Allegro con brio Performed by The English Concert Directed by Trevor Pinnock *This symphony was Mozart's first minor key symphony apart from the overture to "Betulia liberata". It is dated 5 October 1773. With its wide-leap melodic lines and brisk musical subjects, this symphony is characteristic of the "Sturm und Drang" style. By contrast, Mozart's only other minor key symphony, number 40 (also in G minor), is not typically viewed as part of this movement. This piece is widely known as the opening music in Miloš Forman's film "Amadeus".
