"They were one of the finest f@#%ing rock bands of their time. They were as important as anybody else who's ever been, ever. Revivify Fanny. And I will feel that my work is done." -David Bowie, 2002 Here's another great strutter from Fanny, a cover of Ike & Tina's funky ode to lust. After their debut in 1970, Fanny toured and won converts everywhere. Lowell George (Little Feat), Jeff "Skunk" Baxter (Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers), and David Bowie jammed with them often. Much attention is rightly given to the Millington sisters, Jean and June, who ran the band. But pianist Nickey Barclay is a wonder herself. From barrelhouse blues and boogie woogie, to piano ballads and funky clav, she had astounding chops. And on top of that she belted out many of their best rockers. This sly and lascivious vamp flips the script on the groupie scene. Here's an article about them: www.metalmaidens.com And here's Rhino's box set collection: www.rhinohandmade.com All songs from the 4CDs also available on iTunes! Learn about the ...

A rocking, driving cover of the John Lennon-Paul McCartney original by the first, self-founded, all-girl rock band to be signed to and release an album on a major record label. Before the Runaways, the Bangles, the Go-Gos, etc., there was FANNY. David Bowie said (Rolling Stone, 29 December 1999): "One of the most important female bands in American rock has been buried without a trace. And that is Fanny. They were one of the finest... rock bands of their time, in about 1973. They were extraordinary... they're as important as anybody else who's ever been, ever; it just wasn't their time." This track, 'Hey Bulldog' is from the third album by Fanny, 'Fanny Hill'. Audio from an original vinyl LP source. Photos from the booklet in the 2002 box set, 'The First Time in a Long Time', which collates the finest first four albums released by Fanny, plus lots of never-before-heard or -released extras. Fanny were (original lineup, 1969 - 1974): June Millington - acoustic and slide guitars, vocals Jean Millington - bass, guitars, vocals Nickey Barclay - keyboards, guitars, vocals Alice de Buhr - drums, percussion For more on the band, go to: www.fannyrocks.com ---------- Disclaimer: The video poster is not connected with the band or any of its members as regards creation and posting of the video.

From the film "Trouble Brewing" (1939) starring George Formy, Googie Withers, Gus McNaughton and Garry Marsh. Composed by George Formby, Harry Gifford & Fred E. Cliffe. Also featured in this video is Esma Cannon, who, as well as "Trouble Brewing" also appeared in "I See Ice" and "It's In The Air," all of which were just single scene "bit parts". The picture quality was much better when I first uploaded it, but it seems YouTube have compressed it and reduced the frame rate. Good old YouTube!
